Sheila Fox ( Godiva Goddess Art)

As a self-taught mixed media artist, my passion lies in capturing the essence of Black women and men. Using mesh wire, copper wire, flowers, fabric, metal shavings, and traditional mediums like acrylic paint, oil pastel, and spray paint, I bring texture and depth, especially when portraying hair. My dynamic, multilayered pieces challenge traditional art norms, sparking conversations about the complexity and diversity of the Black experience. Constantly experimenting with new materials, I push the boundaries of mixed media art, offering representation and empowerment for the Black community.

Known as Godiva Goddess [guh-dai-vuh gaa-duhs]

I, Sheila Fox, a prolific mixed media artist from Louisville, KY (originally Chicago, IL), drawing inspiration from my identity as a Black Woman. With over two decades of drawing, 7 years of painting, and a background as a welder/fabricator, I seamlessly blend themes of history, race, power, and repression in my creations. Specializing in portraiture, I skillfully render the beauty and strength of black women and men.

Beyond the canvas, my deep passion for styling hair, makeup, and fashion seamlessly integrates into my art. A proud wife and mother of four, I transitioned from a full-time welder to a full-time artist June of 2023. Art, for me, is more than a passion—it’s a lifeline, woven into the narrative of my beautiful, intelligent, and loving children. With every stroke, I continue to express the indispensable role of art in my life.
